Hanover abolished its low-emission zone on 22 February 2024

The City of Hanover abolished its former low-emission zone with effect from 22 February 2024. Vehicles on Hanover’s roads no longer need a green emissions sticker, removing one previous route-planning restriction for rental vans.

Parking management is now more relevant for moves. Hanover is expanding resident-parking zones, and current city guidance says moving or trade vehicles must always obtain an exception to park in a resident zone – even when a temporary no-parking restriction is not otherwise necessary.

Moving no-parking restriction in Hanover: two weeks ahead, signs for three full days

Hanover provides a dedicated online service for moving and furniture-delivery no-parking restrictions. The application covers the location, duration and existing parking situation, with personal applications also possible through city service points in suitable cases.

The application should be submitted about two weeks ahead and at least eight working days before the date. The signs must be in place for three full calendar days before the restriction starts. The city currently lists a €23 permit fee for one day; sign rental/procurement and installation are separate.
