Dresden has no low-emission zone – but a local truck restriction applies above 3.5 t

Dresden chose not to introduce a conventional low-emission zone in its clean-air planning. For smaller vans up to 3.5 t, the usual green-sticker issue seen in many German cities is therefore not the main local concern. Larger moving vehicles face a different rule.

The city describes a zone signed under German traffic sign 253 for motor vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. Its information sheet explicitly lists private moves with an origin or destination inside the zone as permitted private transport, while private through-traffic without an origin or destination in the zone is not included. Check the route in advance for a 7.5-tonne truck.

Moving no-parking zone in Dresden: preferably 14 days ahead, signs four days ahead

Dresden provides a simplified permit process and online form for moves and deliveries. A permit is relevant when public road space is needed for safe loading/unloading or equipment such as a furniture lift.

The city recommends submitting the application preferably at least 14 days before the move. After the application has been processed, the ordered no-parking signs must be installed at least four days before the moving date. The applicant or a contracted traffic-management provider organises the signs; current fees are set in the specific permit.

Which vehicle class suits a move in Dresden?

Dresden does not change the cargo volume you need. Choose the class from the actual inventory, longest item, payload and interior dimensions rather than room count alone.

Then add the local check: will the vehicle height fit the yard, garage or access road, is there enough manoeuvring space, and does the chosen branch support that exact class?

For a move to or from Dresden, returning the van to another branch can be useful. Availability and any surcharge depend on the provider, tariff and specific vehicle.
