For larger moves, Bremen has specialist van/truck branches outside the tightest central area. That can simplify pickup and return, while central loading addresses still require a separate check of the low-emission zone and loading space.

SIXT operates a dedicated Truck Center in Habenhausen with 24-hour pickup and return and advertises vans, Sprinters and trucks. Europcar lists a specialist van/truck branch on Ludwig-Erhard-Strasse. The airport branch can also be convenient for air arrivals if the required commercial-vehicle class is confirmed there.

Bremen’s green low-emission zone remains active in central districts

Bremen still operates a low-emission zone covering the Old Town, Östliche Vorstadt, parts of Schwachhausen and large parts of Neustadt. Since July 2011, vehicles entering the zone generally need the green emissions sticker.

Before driving a rental van to the loading address, check that the actual vehicle carries the green sticker and whether either address lies inside the signed zone. Outside the low-emission zone, this local sticker requirement does not apply; the official city map defines the boundary.

Moving no-parking restriction in Bremen: two-week lead time since 2026

Moving exceptions in the City of Bremen are now handled by Bremen Police; where a no-parking restriction already exists and only a parking exception is needed, the road authority may be responsible. Applicants must arrange the required official signs themselves.

Since 1 February 2026, applications involving no-parking restrictions and moves have a binding two-week lead time. The signs must be installed at least three days before the move, excluding the installation day. Bremen Police also states that residential moves are generally prohibited on Sundays and public holidays under the local holiday rules.

For a move to or from Bremen, returning the van to another branch can be useful. Availability and any surcharge depend on the provider, tariff and specific vehicle.
